Some companions grow up with us, becoming part of every memory we hold dear 🤍
“Charlie was with me since I was 6 years old. Every childhood memory I have somehow includes him laying at my feet, following us around the house, barking for attention, or curling up close just so he could feel near us. He wasn’t just a dog. He was comfort, routine, family, and unconditional love all wrapped into one tiny black Shih Tzu.
When Kia passed away, a piece of Charlie left with her. The bond they shared was something so special and impossible to explain unless you witnessed it. After losing his mom, Charlie carried around her little mouse toy and would fall asleep with it in his mouth. It was as if he held onto her in every way he still could. Watching that kind of love and grief in such a tiny soul was absolutely heartbreaking.
The day we had to say goodbye to Charlie is still a blur to me. My heart was shattered in ways I can’t even put into words. I stayed strong for my sweet boy because I knew he was tired, and I knew I could not let him continue hurting just because I wasn’t ready to let go. I had prolonged that day for so long because the thought of life without Charlie felt impossible.
As painful as it was, I am forever grateful that his final moments were peaceful, gentle, and filled with love. Dr. Michelle showed Charlie such compassion and dignity during one of the hardest moments of our lives, and I will never forget that kindness. Knowing Charlie left this world surrounded by love and no longer in pain brings me the smallest bit of comfort during such an unbearable loss.
Charlie, thank you for 17 beautiful years of unconditional love. Thank you for every bark for attention, every cuddle at our feet, every moment of comfort, and every childhood memory you helped create. A part of our hearts left with you and Kia, and no amount of time will ever fill that space again.
I hope wherever you are now, you found your mom again. I hope you’re carrying her mouse in your mouth, curled up beside her peacefully, finally free from pain.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Our sweet Char.”
